Director / Choreographer - Kay Cole
Musical Director - Steven Applegate
NUNCRACKERS continues with the same characters from NUNSENSE plus Father Virgil and an added chorus of school children aiding and abetting the Reverend Mother in her continuing fund raising ideas and activities. This time it is to be a production of a televised-from-the-convent-basement version of the perennial Holiday favorite, The Nutcracker. Accompanied by Sister Robert Anne and her dashed hopes of having just one night as a Broadway singing star, Sister Hubert, Reverend Mother's side kick who brings her own past to the convent, Sister Amnesia who started her pre-nun career as a Grand ole Opry singer, the Reverend Mother gets a bit more than she bargained for - including the need to keep a watchful eye over Father Virgil who tips an overabundance of rum into the holiday baking. NUNCRACKERS is a fun-for-the-whole-family holiday musical that strengthens one's belief that everything turns out okay in the end, but, oh brother, what fun it is getting to the end!

Valley Musical Theatre (VMT), Ronn Goswick, Executive Director presents Sally Struthers and Adrian Zmed in the holiday musical comedy NUNCRACKERS, THE NUNSENSE CHRISTMAS MUSICAL written by Dan Goggin, directed and choreographed by Kay Cole with Steven Applegate as Musical Director.
NUNCRACKERS previews on November 17 and 18 and continues with a gala opening on Sunday, November 19 at 5 p.m. at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. The production continues until Dec. 3.
NUNCRACKERS will be the final show of the 2006 Season for Valley Musical Theatre. A new and exciting 2007 Season will be announced in mid-November.
NUNCRACKERS features Sally Struthers as Sister Mary Regina plus Adrian Zmed as Father Virgil, with many of the nuns you already love from the original production of NUNSENSE. There are many new songs including Twelve Days Prior to Christmas, Santa Ain't Comin' to Our House, We Three Kings of Orient Are Us and It's Better to Give than to Receive, this show is filled with typical NUNSENSE humor, some of your favorite carols, and a "Secret Santa" audience participation.
This NUNSENSE will ensure that your holiday season is merry and bright, as this production is a televised-from-the-convent-basement version of the perennial holiday favorite, The Nutcracker.
Accompanied by Sister Mary Robert Anne and her dashed hopes of having just one night as a Broadway singing star, Sister Mary Hubert, Reverend Mother's side kick, brings her own past dreams to the convent. Joining her is Sister Mary Paul Amnesia, who started her pre-nun career as a Grand ole Opry singer. The Reverend Mother gets a bit more than she bargained for – including the need to keep a watchful eye over Father Virgil who tips an overabundance of rum into the holiday baking.
NUNCRACKERS, THE NUNSENSE CHRISTMAS MUSICAL was originally produced as a DVD in 2001 starring Rue McClanahan and John Ritter and written and directed by Dan Goggin. All of the 7 sequels of Nunsense were written by Goggin, a musical-comedy composer, lyricist and author. Goggin was schooled by Marywood Dominican Sisters. Because of his positive experience with nuns, each character in NUNSENSE (1993) is based on a nun that he knew from school.
NUNCRACKERS is a fun-for-the-whole-family holiday musical. The production opens for a limited run of 15 performances and 2 previews November 17 and 18th at 8 p.m., followed by a Gala Celebrity/Press Opening on Sunday, November 19th at 5 p.m. El Portal Theatre is located at 5269 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood.
