Audition Info

Roles for 7-10 youth. Open to 6th - 8th grade students, and 9th grade students involved in previous VMT Rising Star Productions.

Synopsis: The exceptional tale of Milo, Tock and a certain magic tollbooth is brought splendidly to life on stage in The Phantom Tollbooth JR. Adapted from Norton Juster's beloved, award-winning children's book, this inventive musical features a melodious score by Arnold Black and witty lyrics full of wordplay by Pulitzer Prize and three-time-Tony-winner, Sheldon Harnick.

Audition Requirements:

  • Sing one-minute from a song of your choice.  Does not have to be from a musical, but something that shows your voice and that you are confident with.

  • Read a portion of scene from the play (provided at the audition).

  • May be required to do a bit of movement.

AUDITION TIPS:

  1. An accompanist will NOT be available.  If you have a background music track to play with your song (no words), please bring it with you on your phone or CD. We have a bluetooth speaker that can play the music for you.  Alternatively, you are more than welcome to sing acapella.

  2. Please show up 10 minutes early to check in and get your picture taken.

  3. You may bring one parent/guardian with you during the audition.

  4. Everyone in the facility must wear a mask. Actors may take their mask off during their audition only.

HEALTH RISK/COVID PRECAUTIONS:

We will do our best to minimize covid exposure risks, and we will be social distancing with a minimum of 6 feet. Masks are required at rehearsals when you are not performing. We will have health screening questions at the beginning of rehearsals. Stay home if you feel sick!

To minimize exposure from singing during performances, we are planning to pre-record the cast singing all of the songs for the show.  These will be mixed with the soundtrack and actors will lip-sync to their own pre-recorded voices during the performance. VMT will also be providing clear facemasks as part of the costumes.

Please read actor/crew agreement and refer to VMT's COVID, Health and Safety page for detailed descriptions.

We remain committed to enriching lives through theatre in a safe and responsible way as we do what we can in striving to protect our performers, volunteers and patrons from inadvertent exposure. Participation in VMT productions is voluntary, and participants must understand and acknowledge that VMT is not responsible nor liable for any individual that develops COVID-19.
